6 Days At Sea With Silversea's Silver Muse

Someone once told me that after experiencing a voyage onboard Silversea’s Silver Muse, they would never be able to travel any other way again. Stepping onto the luxury liner, my first thought while entering the aptly named main lounge, Dolce Vita (sweet life in Italian), was, “I think my dear friend was absolutely, positively right.”

Trying to put into words what my experience onboard Silversea Cruises was like would be near impossible, and though I can try my best, I can guarantee my words will not come close to the feeling of it all. However, I’ll start with two words: private butler.

A dedicated butler to each suite onboard who is friendly, bright, and helpful. Who makes sure you are well taken care of. Who brings eggs benedict, fresh fruit and piping hot coffee to your suite every morning should you so request. Who makes the entire experience special and personalized.

If a butler was not enough to paint the picture of peak luxury, then allow me to describe the ship, Silver Muse. Intimate and stylish with no more than 600 passengers onboard per voyage, it feels like a floating six-star boutique hotel rather than a “cruise ship.” Everything, right down to the Bulgari amenities, is world-class.

No main dining room but rather nine separate dining experiences including Japanese Tepanyaki and fresh sushi; Indian-Chinese fusion; a proper steak and seafood restaurant; mouth-watering Italian with indoor and outdoor seating overlooking the sea; dining on the pool deck where guests can cook their own food on a personal grill under the stars; and an elevated fine-dining experience by Relais & Chateaux. For those who love high tea, this is available at the Arts Café, every afternoon. Scones and sandwiches and cakes, oh my! Not to mention, 24-hour room service which I shamelessly admit to ordering more than once. No shortage of high-quality food onboard - my scale doesn’t lie.

Particularly superior about Silversea ships is that there are no interior cabins for guests, meaning every spacious suite has a balcony to enjoy the jaw-dropping views of the exotic locales the ship anchors in. In Bequia, I enjoyed breakfast on my balcony, looking at the lush greenery of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. An experience I will forever treasure.

As far as exotic destinations go, on the six-day Caribbean voyage, I had the privilege of visiting historic Bridgetown in Barbados, St. George’s Grenada, Bequia, Antigua, St. Bart’s and St. Thomas USVI. A new tropical, breathtaking port every day.

From gallivanting through the shop-lined streets of St. Barts, gelato in hand, to swimming with stingrays in St. John’s, Antigua, and snorkelling a shipwreck in St. Thomas, each island now has a piece of my heart.

Travelling with Silversea is something that needs to be savoured, because every moment is even sweeter than the last. I cannot believe how lucky I was to experience what I did. As mentioned, my words cannot possibly capture the feeling I had while onboard Silver Muse but I hope they do the adventure some justice.

Now I’m back home, making my own piping hot coffee, and I sip the mug at my desk at work. Stingrays, historic shipwrecks and gelato are but a memory, but an incredible one that I hope to make again with Silversea.
